Continuing the art space renovations…
After a decent success with my first decoupage, I created my own decoupage medium from glue and water (recipe here) and set to work on a second decoupage box — this time covered in newspaper instead of fabric.
Get cat out of box.
Tear off any excess tape to get surface as smooth as possible. Then apply a thorough coating of the decoupage medium, and smooth the newspaper on top. Try to start at the center and smooth outward to eliminate wrinkles.
Next, apply a second coat of decoupage medium.
Note: I did this step immediately, but I have since read that you should allow the first coat to dry for a few minutes (no more than 15) before applying the second coat. This may have prevented some of the small wrinkles I got.
Cat returns to box.
Here’s the box filled with fabric. As you can see, I was left with a few wrinkles. The thinness of the newspaper makes it a challenge to work with, but I do like the idea of it. It’s a learning process. Hopefully, the next one will be even better!
